Date: September 16, 2021
Dear Reader,
I am very excited to have been selected to participate in Arts at the Armory, October 16 & 17. A free-for-all-ages event sponsored by Tacoma Arts Live, as part of Tacoma Arts Month, there will be many local artists presenting their work and demonstrating their passions. I will be there both days, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and hope to meet many local artists and art lovers!
Tacoma Arts Month has meant so much to me and my family over the years, so I am honored to be taking part in it this year! Ever since we first moved to Tacoma in 2006 we have been involved in the various events each October. Our favorite activity for the last several years has been the open studio tours - seeing the places where local artists create their magic. We’ve also enjoyed the AMOCAT Arts Award Event, always held in a different, and very cool, location.
At this year’s event I will be demonstrating the linocut process while showcasing my current project (illustrating my in-progress book, Entrance to Hell). To do this, I will have the storyboard of illustrations I am working on and will be describing their placement in the book, and the media to be used (paintings, drawings, and linocut prints). I will have a few linoleum blocks and, between conversations, will be cutting them. Interested visitors will be able to use cut lino blocks to make their own prints using either a spoon or my book-press press.
The artwork I will have available for sale will include what I currently have offered on my website (BeEugeneBeCreative), including the original pieces from Corrected Poems (including the Cover Art and Green Man). The art will include both original, hand-pressed prints, and giclee prints. I also will have my Wheel of Fortune prints for sale, which I am really excited about, because it was a project with material sourced from Tinkertopia™. The material inspired the art.
I hope this year you have a chance to create an annual tradition of your own and join some of the events, including the Arts at the Armory. If you do make it, please make sure to stop by and say hello!
