Dear Reader,
So far April has been a whirlwind of activities in the Tacoma Literary scene and I hope you had a chance to join some of the fun events. There have been a lot of things happening in my creative endeavors as well!
The month started with the excitement of having been selected for the Tacoma Artists Initiative Program.
The project I am working on is called Voices of Tacoma: A Gathering of Poets and has several free components, open to everyone (and not just Poets in Tacoma):
The first is our Monthly Poet Gathering (a hybrid writer's group). The first of these meetings will be held at 6:30pm on May 31 at Tacoma Public Library - Moore Branch. The meeting will be available on Zoom via the QR code below.
The second component are the four poetry workshops which will be facilitated by local poets, publishers, and literary artists. These will start in September and we’re gathering ideas for topics -- so please let me know if you have suggestions.
The third component is the poetry submission process, (open to poets of all ages and from anywhere). The topic of the anthology is poetry about, or inspired by, Tacoma. The plan is to open the submissions in early 2024.
The last component is the compilation and editing of the poetry anthology, with a publishing date in Fall 2024. There will be poetry readings where all contributors will be invited to participate and celebrate their work and all contributing poets will receive a copy of the anthology.
For general questions or media inquiries about the project, please contact me via agatheringofpoets@gmail.com.
This project is partly funded by the Tacoma Artists Initiative Program.
On April 6th Wild Rose & Other Poems Sung by the Window, was released. My third collection of poetry, it is both an ode to my Mom, who passed away last year, and a tribute to her influence on my artistic sentiments. I hope you enjoy it - please let me know your thoughts!

April 12 was Tacoma Poet Laureate’s Pass the Torch event at Tacoma Public Library - Moore Branch. The room was packed with poets and lovers of poetry as Lydia K. Valentine (Poet Laureate - 2021-2023) passed the torch to Christian Paige for 2023-2025. It was so cool to hear them both read their work. See the entire event here.
April 15 was the 2023 Tacoma Wayzgoose. Wow. What an amazing gathering. The community letterpress and book arts extravaganza was packed with vendors and booths and activities and people and steamrollers in the parking lot and lines to get Shroom Brothers to print you a shirt. Held at Tacoma Public Library - Moore Branch (there it is again!), it was so good to be back and to see everyone having so much fun!
April 17 was Creative Colloquy’s Literary Reading and Open Mic with Dawn Ellis and Paul Barach at Anthem Coffee - Stadium District. As is always apparent at Creative Colloquy’s events, the South Sound literary community is mighty and welcoming to all!
