Dear Reader,

I am very excited to launch the first 3rd Thursday Newsletter to the literary community and to share with you things that you might find interesting!

Announcement

  • Having finished my first novel, “Entrance to Hell”, in December, I have been busy with editing it and shopping for Literary Agents to help me get it published. Yesterday I started writing the aptly named (if only temporary) “A Sequel”. As a teaser for this, the first newsletter, I wanted to share the opening paragraph:

Paul wasn’t sure what he was going to say to his parents. Or the police officer who was standing in front of him with his notepad out, waiting for him to begin talking. Mrs. Freeman stood to the side looking at Tom and me with her hands on her hips, waiting to hear what we were going to tell them. Jake, standing behind her, fidgeted and looked perplexed.

Stay tuned for more updates on these two novels over the next year. I hope to have the first book published in 2022 and the second in 2023.

  • Norwescon 43, April 1–4, 2021, is presenting a Milford-style workshop allowing a peer-to-peer critique which will be facilitated by professional writers, editors, and agents. I have applied for the juried workshop and am hoping to be selected. If I do have the opportunity to participate I will be working with a sample from my upcoming novel, currently titled “When I Was A Child I Found the Entrance to Hell to Be a Real Place”. Norwescon 43 is happening April 1-4.

  • I have applied for the Tacoma Artist Initiative Program for 2021-2022! If I am selected, the program will help fund my writing as I begin the sequel to my first novel “Entrance to Hell”. There also is a public component of the program, for which I have submitted a proposal to run a workshop to help young writers learn how to develop fictional characters and place them in real life settings. I won’t know if I was selected until the beginning of March - so stay tuned!

Upcoming Events

  • TAIP artist selection announcement, by March 12

B. Eugene B.s' Artist Statement

Different forms of self are apparent in my art. My visual art is closely tied to my process of writing poetry, and these two forms of expression are considered the same child in my mind; not a closely related phenomenon, but an alternate form of the same creation.
